Burnley constituency

The Burnley constituency covers the town of Burnley and the neighbouring communities of Padiham and Brierfield, together with the surrounding villages and countryside that make up the Borough of Burnley and two adjoining wards in Pendle. It sits in east Lancashire, at the meeting of the River Calder and the River Brun, between the Forest of Bowland and the Pennines — a mix of busy high streets, historic mill towns, canal-side neighbourhoods and open moorland. From Towneley Park and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the hills above Worsthorne and Cliviger, it is an area with a strong sense of place and a proud industrial past as one of the great cotton-weaving centres of the north.

The parliamentary seat itself dates back to 1868, when Burnley and Habergham Eaves were first given their own representation. For most of the last century its boundaries followed the old county borough and then the modern Borough of Burnley; from 2024 they were extended to include Brierfield so that the constituency stayed within the required size. Today it remains a compact, recognisable community of towns and villages that share the same streets, schools, workplaces and landscape.
